Where to Find Katavi Wildlife Camp

Katavi Wildlife Camp enjoys a privileged position on the fringes of the Katisunga Plain, overlooking the Katuma River, the lifeblood of Katavi National Park. The Fox family established Katavi Wildlife Camp as a mobile camp in 2003, before it became the first permanent tented safari camp in the national park in 2009. Its strategic location offers guests front-row seats to the array of wildlife that dots the river. Hidden within the Miombo woodlands, the camp indulges in a sense of seclusion. From the comfort of your private veranda or the camp’s elevated lookout deck, watch as predators stealthily stalk their prey across the golden plains.

For a seamless transition from your Safari Air Link flight, this tranquil safari camp is an hour-long drive from Ikuu Airstrip, depending on how many wildlife stops you make along the way. The allure of Tanzania’s less-visited western safari circuit lies in its high concentrations of wildlife that makes it well worth the journey to get there. According to The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), the park welcomes fewer than 5 000 visitors annually. This dearth of travellers accentuates the feeling that our guests have this 4 471km2 stretch of wilderness almost all to themselves. At times, when the other camps are closed, they may be the only guests in the park.
