The key to an outstanding game drive is experience, knowledge and a suitable vehicle. All game drives around the park are taken in open 4 wheel drive vehicles. These vehicles have been designed to ensure maximum visibility for all passengers. The game drives are led by a trained, experienced English-speaking guide who ensures that you get the most out of every safari you take. Balloon safaris are available in Ruaha during the dry season and can be pre-booked or booked onsite.
Many of the guides at Foxes Safari Camps have worked in the parks for years honing their knowledge of the respective camps. Their self-motivation and knowledge is enhanced by annual training.
A game walk at Foxes Safari Camps will truly open your eyes to the finer details often missed on game drives - the spore, footprints, the 'Little Five' representing the insect Kingdom are fascinating when evaluated and explained by your Walking Guide.
Boating safaris at some of our river camps in flat-bottomed boats are perhaps the most relaxing way to game view. Sharing the river with pods of hippo and floats of crocodiles giving you the opportunity to view birds nesting in the banks, monitor lizards, and many water birds are just some of the highlights.
Private dinners on your veranda, bush breakfasts, or a sundowner on the banks of the river are all the finer ways in which we hope to make your safari with us a memorable one. Please ask if you would like us to organize something out of the ordinary. Fly camping in Ruaha for example is a great way to immerse yourself in the bush. Small tents set up in a private camp with your own host, guide and chef, fly camping is available for a minimum of 2-nights for 2 people, and only in the dry season - but an exciting alternative to staying in the Main Lodge.
The Tanzanian landscape includes several small isolated mountain ranges. Each of these have a unique mixture of habitats and animal species, and none more so than the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Home to at least ten species of primate and several recently discovered species of bird, a rainforest trek here will be one you never forget.
Wind and tide permitting at Lazy Lagoon, we have an excellent Laser I and Laser II to take out sailing, and an experienced manager to guide you. At most times of the day, the lagoon is largely sheltered from the onshore winds and makes an ideal spot to learn to sail.
The coral off the coast is home to a myriad of fish, sea anemones, and countless other creatures to drift over and marvel at. For the more ambitious, a dhow trip can take you further out. We have a number of sets of fins, snorkels, and goggles for different ages and sizes.
We also have a number of one- and two-person Kayaks to explore the coastline around the lodge from a different perspective. We have plenty of life jackets for all activities.
We have up to 15 horses stabled at our farm, roaming freely around the valley during the day. For riding, we have good quality and plentiful tack, and renew our helmets and padding regularly. Our guides are hugely experienced with an infectious charm, and will take you - depending on your riding experience - on a number of different trails through the mountains and valleys. Complete novices are very welcome!
At Mufindi we are very proud of our immaculate lawns, and encourage you to make the most of them. We have a full-sized tennis court commanding some special views, a partially sheltered outdoor badminton court, a bowls green, and a ‘secret garden’ for ‘aggressive, Foxes’-rules’ croquet; no quarter asked for nor given. In addition, there is an ambitious 3-hole golf course which takes you across the estate, and some grueling obstacles (horses, cattle, fly-fishermen).
